Just to have an example how powerful Google is, let’s take a look into the most wanted domain names owned by Google.

Zero.com

Plenty of companies around the world use the word Zero, but the domain name is owned only by one of them – Google. According to various sources, Google acquired the domain name for $329,420 nine years ago. However, this domain name hasn’t displayed any content since it was bought by Google.

An interesting fact is that Google has launched a project called Project Zero, dedicated to finding vulnerabilities in software. However, the domain name Zero.com wasn’t used for Project Zero purposes.

Like.com

When you hear the word Like, you probably think about Facebook. But surprisingly, the domain name Like.com belongs to Google.

The domain name Like.com was used by one shopping company since Google acquired it in 2010. After this agreement, the former Like.com team joined Google with the task to improve its comparison shopping engine. Same as Zero.com, the domain name Like.com does not show any content at all.

Nest.com

Nest is a popular solution as a smart thermostat. The company, founded by two former Apple employees, raised $80 million in a Series C funding round and was estimated to be worth $800 million in 2013. However, one year later, the company was acquired by Google for $3.2 billion and the domain name Nest.com became Google’s property, too.

 

Wallet.com

With the boom of cryptocurrencies, the term Wallet became extremely popular. However, the domain name Wallet.com was bought by Google in 2011, before the popularity of virtual money.

Today the domain name Wallet.com redirects to Google’s peer-to-peer payment service.

YT.com

This two-letter domain name was acquired by Google in 2015 from a Japanese company. The primary goal of YT.com domain brand is to protect Google’s YouTube brand, which is owned by Google. However, the domain name does not redirect to YouTube and does not contain any content.

Disco.com

Sold for the price of $255,000, Disco.com was acquired by Google for hosting its application of the same name, unfortunately, this project was short-lived. Despite that, Google still owns Disco.com, but it does not contain any content.

GV.com

Not like other domain names, GV.com is in use. Google acquired this domain name with the purpose of using it for Google Ventures, the venture capital arm of Alphabet Inc.

The domain name was bought by Google in 2013.

Sonar.com

Google acquired this domain name together with the company DoubleClick for $3.1 billion in 2000. Unfortunately, the domain name has never been used.

Jot.com

This domain name was initially owned by the company named JotSpot. However, after the acquisition, this company eventually became Google Sites.

Duck.com

The domain name, along with the company called Duck Corporation was acquired in 2010 for $124.6 million. Today Duck.com forwards you to Google’s main site.
